Lewis Man of the Match

Another match-up between the Celtic u10s Blues and the strong CWFC Barca outfit at Wright Robbie.

In what seems like a monthly fixture our lads could be forgiven for thinking they were on for another beating at the hands of CWFC Barca but the boys are made of sterner stuff; every day is different and straight from the kick off you could see our lads were up for it and took CWFC on toe to toe.

Jody and Elliott started calmly bringing the ball out from the back and linking up well with midfield with the occasional cut through to the ever mobile Mason up top. Positionally our defence was excellent all game and rarely let a Barca player in behind them. Anything that did get through was dealt with well by Jack as per usual. Lewis played almost the entire match and deservedly won the Man of the Match award for his domination of the midfield and kept 2 CWFC players busy for most of the game. Corey was a threat on the right with his pace and Zak as usual was buzzing round the midfield and it was no surprise that when he went off injured the game swung a little in CWFC's favour.  Will came on and orchestrated the best move of the match and with some better finishing Celtic could have taken the lead. As so often happens in football though a CWFC corner went flat into the area and an unlucky deflection saw Celtic go behind.  To rub salt into the wounds a similar effort from Zak up the other end saw his effort defected wide rather than in.  A textbook slide tackle from Elliot thwarted the next Barca attack but the lads went into the half time team talk down but still in the game.

George was at his best holding the ball up for reinforcements and showed some neat footwork second half but again our finishing let us down and CWFC were able to bring on a couple of handy substitutions on. Harlee  was like a terrier and proving a bit of a nuisance. A succession of corners rewarded the Blues pressure but they trotted back upfield without any reward. Corey and Lewis needed a well earned break so it was no surprise the pacey Barca team dominated the last 10 minutes and hit us with 2 sucker punches.

In summary the scoreline flattered CWFC a little but this was definitely the best we have played against them so far; full credit to our lads who really put a shift in today completely ignoring the formbook and giving it a go.
