Paul Hett Cup Quarter Final Stalybridge Celtic Whites v Poynton Panthers

In the most delightful way, the Celtic Whites booked their place in the semi finals of the Paul Hett Trophy.

A strange game by all accounts as Poynton seem to employ a stifling tactic upon their opponents, pack hunt which never allowed Celtic to gain a proper rhythm or any kind of momentum.

They focus on the counter attack which is a shame as they clearly have some talented footballers in their midst however it proved fruitful for them before half time with a loose ball moped up by a forward running Poynton player to take him one on one with Devon and he took his shot well.

They were managing to keep hold of a very shaky lead into the dying minutes of the game by employing the same tactics, Celtics wave of attack was faultless but bodies just surrounded the ball making it so difficult.

I’m not sure if they took the foot off the gas or the re introduction of Joe, who is in sensational form at the moment or it was a combination of the two but cometh the hour (or near the 40 minute mark) cometh the Fin.  Only an inch perfect pass from Joe could have allowed him to direct the ball emphatically home and into a sudden death penalty shoot out!

Congratulations to Devon who managed to keep his composure and his cool to expertly save 2 of the Poynton pens and again Joe for burying the decider.
Forwards they roll into the Semis!

Final Thought: I don’t think I’ve seen the team as together as they were during the shoot out or how elated they were as a team to have won it. Enjoy your victory boys as the Celtic Bus keeps on rolling and as Mary Poppins said “in every job that must be done, there is an element of fun”
