No More MUD! Save Our Flooding Field

Our volunteer-run junior club needs your vote to secure funding from the Aviva Community Fund to save the Soccer Centre football pitches.

The volunteer-run junior club needs your vote to secure funding from the Aviva Community Fund to save their Soccer Centre football pitches.

Formed in 1975, Stalybridge Celtic Juniors provides football for over 350 children every week across 27 teams and a Saturday soccer school, with players from under 6s to under 16s. The entirely volunteer-run club needs your vote to win funds to install drainage on the main pitch and mini-soccer pitch at their Soccer Centre on Mossley Rd.

No More MUD!

The club has been forced to post the dreaded ‘FOOTBALL IS CANCELLED THIS WEEK DUE TO WATERLOGGED PITCH’ message more and more often. Saturated unplayable pitches following heavy downpours are forcing training sessions and the soccer school to be cancelled, leaving children, parents and the club’s army of volunteers disappointed and upset after looking forward to their football.

Club chairman Gary Pearce said ‘We are 100% volunteer run providing football to over 350 kids on a weekly basis. Our training sessions and Saturday soccer school are at risk with a waterlogged pitch and we need to do something about it.’

For weeks following heavy rain, surface water has nowhere to drain off to, leaving the area unplayable. This means relocating to costly artificial pitches rather than playing at their Soccer Centre. The club’s pitches are in desperate need of drainage to resolve the problem and get the pitches playable all year round, especially through the winter months.

Whenever Stalybridge Celtic Juniors have to close the Soccer School they not only lose vital income, but are disappointing all the players who would want nothing more than to get some fresh air, have a kick about with their mates, and receive quality coaching to improve their game, but it is simply too unsafe for them to play.

How can you help? Stalybridge Celtic Juniors need your vote to secure funding from the Aviva Community Fund to install drainage to their football pitches.
