Manchester Marathon Match

Stalybridge Celtic Juniors teams playing in the Manchester Match Marathon raised over £2,500 for victims of the Manchester attack.

Last Friday (2 June) six of our teams took part in the Manchester Match Marathon at Curzon Ashton's Tameside Stadium. Over 200 teams from across the North West and as far away as South Wales took part on 24 hours of continuous football. The Manchester Marathon Match was organised to raise funds for the victims of the Manchester attack and the event as a whole raised more than £40,000 for the British Red Cross fund.

The under 7s Blues & Whites, under 8s Blues, under 12s, under 13s and a team of coaches took part in the event which was kicked of by Paul Scholes and Anthony Crolla at 7pm Friday evening and went on continuously, across three pitches, until 7pm Saturday. A minutes silence also took place and 22 balloons were released to remember those who lost their lives.

Stalybridge Celtic Juniors would like to thank all those who took part and donated, and the organisers of such a wonderful event.
